- A steamer basket (or colander that fits in a pot)
- A pot with a lid
- Eggs (any number)
- Cold water or ice bath
Instructions:
- Add 1 inch of water to a pot and bring to a boil.
- Place the eggs in a steamer basket above the boiling water.
- Cover with a lid and steam for:
- 12 minutes for hard-boiled
- 8–9 minutes for medium
- 6–7 minutes for soft-boiled
- When time is up, transfer immediately to a bowl of ice water (or very cold water).
- Let cool for at least 5–10 minutes.
- Crack and peel—you’ll be amazed how the shell just slides off!
🥚 Why This Trick Works:
- Steam penetrates quickly and cooks the eggs evenly.
- Steam loosens the shell membrane, making it detach from the egg white easily.
- The ice bath contracts the egg, pulling it away from the shell for a cleaner peel.
✅ Bonus Tip:
Add a splash of vinegar or baking soda to the steaming water if you’re using very fresh eggs—this helps even more with peeling.
