When I was tidying up my 15-year-old son’s school backpack one evening, I wasn’t expecting to find anything unusual. I simply wanted to throw away the trash and organize his things, because he always tossed his bag into a corner saying he would clean it up later.
But this time, underneath the books, my hand touched a dense, crumpled paper package.
At first, I thought it might be chewing gum, candy, or maybe some small school supplies. But when I opened it, I found several strange little white balls inside. They looked unusual — too perfectly shaped to be crumbs, too hard to be marshmallows, and with a faint chemical smell that immediately made me uneasy.
My heart started racing.
I called my son into the room and asked him directly what they were. Without hesitation, he shrugged and said:
“They’re just candy.”
But something in his voice felt off. He avoided eye contact, grabbed the package quickly, and tried to laugh it away. That reaction only made me more suspicious.
